What Can an Agency Do for Your Modeling Career?

Newsflash: Modeling is not for the faint of heart.

If you have decided that modeling is the career for you, it’s important to understand that it’s not as glamorous as it often appears to be. It’s not just about looking good and being able to wear expensive clothing by top designers. The job means hustling 24/7, especially when you’re just starting out.

When you are still in the process of building a modeling career, one of the smartest steps to take is to get signed with an agency. With an agency representing you, not only will finding a job be easier, you can also harness other benefits that will drive your career forward.

Benefits of Signing with a Modeling Agency

1. A modeling agency will help you find legitimate work

While you can find modeling jobs on your own, a reputable modeling agency can make sure that the jobs you get are safe. The agency has a meticulous screening process for clients that ensure their reputation – and yours.

As a new model in the business, you need industry experts who can look after your best interests and protect the career you are building. And you can get access to the guidance and support of these industry experts when you become part of a reputable modeling agency.

2. A modeling agency will help you efficiently organize your assignments

When work starts coming in, you need all the help you can get in staying on top of your schedule. You want to make sure that it will be easy for you to go through a day of assignments without missing a single one. Late appearances and cancellations are big no-nos especially when you are still starting out.

If you are signed with an agency, you do not have to worry about overlaps in your schedule because all the work will come through the agency. Therefore, your agent will be able to check your existing appointments, coordinate with you and other parties involved, and check your availability before presenting you with another project or client.

3. A modeling agency can increase your job prospects

Agencies have a huge network of connections, making it easy for them to always be in the know about opportunities that will benefit their talent. If you have an agency that knows you and your skills, you can be assured that it will present you work opportunities that you can definitely excel in.

A good modeling agency does not only look for projects in the fashion industry, it extends its reach to other industries as well such as the entertainment industry. It is not far-fetched to be pitched a job as a correspondent for a live event, or as an actress. You may even be encouraged by your agent to serve as a motivational speaker especially if he or she knows about your personal advocacies and values.

4. A modeling agency will keep you marketable

Regular checks with your appearance and overall health are part of a modeling agency’s job. Your agent will hook you up with a personal trainer if you need one, a top fashion photographer for your flawless headshots, and other professionals in the field who can help you in your journey as a professional model.

5. A modeling agency can help you grow as a professional

The agency knows when it is time for you to book different and better jobs considering your experience and skills. You can trust that you have people who have their eyes on the best assignments to spell success for you.

Also, most of the time, if you have other interests that may be related to your current work as a model, your agency can assist you in the development of these interests. Countless stories have been shared about models that ended up venturing into makeup artistry, styling and product development with the help of their agency.

It’s important to note, however, that not all agencies are created this way. Some are purely focused on modeling.

But here at the AgenC, we go above and beyond. We are not just a modeling agency, we are a talent agency as well. We have photographers, motivational speakers, influencers, make-up artists and other talents on our roster.

We make it easy for the people we represent to learn the dynamics of interconnected segments in the fashion and entertainment industry so they grow in experience and are able to expand their interests and skills.

6. A modeling agency will make sure you get the compensation you deserve
As mentioned, a good modeling agency has your best interests covered. It will not tolerate any professional lapses against you especially when it comes to getting compensation for your hard work.

Likewise, you can be sure that you will be paid fairly. Your agent will negotiate the best rates for your work and, at the same time, he or she will set conditions to protect the industry reputation you are building.

Indeed, an agency is greatly instrumental in ensuring a successful venture into the fashion industry. If you need help on how to become a model, the AgenC is a trusted name in the UAE. We have helped launch the lucrative modeling careers of international models like Georgina B, Ava K, and Milena M to name a few, and we are ready to help you launch your own.

The Game Is Changing

The fashion world has had a huge shake up in the past few weeks. Burberry, Dior Homme and Louis Vuitton  have all appointed new and somewhat unexpected  Creative Directors.

After his memorable departure from Louis Vuitton (who could forget the finale with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell). Kim Jones will replace Kris Van Assche at Dior Homme. It seems Dior CEO, Pietro Beccari, is hoping that Jones can bring a contemporary edge to the Dior Homme brand. Arguably, his most notable collection at Louis Vuitton was his collaboration with Supreme which sent the streetwear world into a frenzy. The Louis Vuitton x Supreme collection resold for over double it original selling price.

Hailed as “one of the most talented designers of our time” by Marco Gobbeti, Riccardo Tisci is undoubtedly a powerhouse in the fashion world. Recently appointed as the new creative director for Burberry it is hoped that he will re-energise the once thriving brand that has slipped in the past few years. Although we think that Christopher Bailey did an amazing job at reviving Burberry, Tisci will bring an unrivaled relevance to the brand.

Perhaps the most exciting appointment of them all is Virgil Abloh being named as the new artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. Founder of the renowned label Off- White that has been growing in popularity since the explosion of the streetwear movement. A celebrity favourite, Abloh has been tipped to make huge movements in his career and this is certainly one of them. We are eagerly awaiting the first show, expected to be in June during Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Abloh has noted that the “heritage and creative integrity” of the house will remain ingrained in his designs but of course, we will see his contemporary, creative genius shine through.

Model of the Moment – Dipti Sharma

After closing their show last year as an exclusive model, Indian model Dipti Sharma has been unveiled as the newest face of Balenciaga’s SS18 campaign. The campaign includes refreshingly diverse cast of models including Stella Tennant, Kennah Lau, Marjitta Nissinen, Eliza Douglas, Christine Willis, Alek Wek, Raphaele Godin and her son. We think it’s a brilliant concept although many have noted the striking similarities to the Yeezy Season 6 campaign.

Dipti is represented by:
